ANNOUNCEMENT: Aloha Gravel on Maui. All Proceeds from new gravel/off-road cycling event to benefit Imua Family Services
Maui, HI – May 1, 2025 – The Gravel Worlds Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the Gravel Worlds cycling and running event, is proud to announce Aloha Gravel, a new gravel and off-road cycling event coming to Maui on November 29, 2025.
All profits from Aloha Gravel will benefit Imua Family Services, a nonprofit that provides critical support to children and families across Maui County (Islands of Maui, Lanai, and Molokai).
“Aloha Gravel is designed to be more than a ride—it’s a commitment to community and giving,” said Jason Strohbehn, Lead Promoter of Gravel Worlds and Aloha Gravel. “We’re proud to create an event that not only showcases the beauty of Maui but also gives back in a meaningful way. Supporting Imua Family Services aligns perfectly with our mission to use bikes as a tool for good.”
To make the trip even more unforgettable, riders can stick around for Pedal Imua, a gran fondo around the entire West Maui Mountains, will be held the weekend after Aloha Gravel on December 6. Together, these two events offer visiting riders and locals the opportunity to experience two epic cycling events in one unforgettable trip to Maui.
“Imua is the Hawaiian word that means to move forward,” Strohbehn said. “Imua Family works with children, youth and families in crisis, abuse, trauma and disabilities to move forward.
“With Aloha Gravel kicking off a week of cycling that leads into our own Pedal Imua gran fondo, this partnership creates even more opportunities to ride with purpose and celebrate the spirit of community.”
Aloha Gravel will be a unique lap-style event featuring gravel roads and single-track trails. Riders will have 6.5 hours to complete as many loops as possible of the beautiful and challenging, roughly 9-mile circuit, each of which will include more than 1,500ft of climbing. Finishers will receive a patch with the number of laps completed.
Riders are encouraged to go as fast or slow as they would like and take in the sights, smells and sounds of the West Maui Mountains. The start location will be at Maui Sunriders in Kapalua, Lahaina.
Registration for the inaugural Aloha Gravel opens May 15 and will be limited to just 200 participants, offering an intimate and impactful adventure through some of Maui’s most breathtaking backroads and trails.
Aloha Gravel is made possible through the help of local cycling clubs, volunteers, and Maui Sunriders Bike Shop, whose enthusiasm and support have helped bring this event to life.
